What is Tokyo Banana “miitsuketa”?
Tokyo Banana “miitsuketa”, wrapped in a pale yellow wrapper with an eye-catching illustration of a cute banana wearing a ribbon, is a confectionery popularly known as “Tokyo Banana”.
It is sold at Tokyo Station and airports and is one of the most popular souvenirs from Tokyo.
Tokyo Banana” was first sold in 1991.
The development of “Tokyo Banana” began with the idea of “creating a candy that everyone would enjoy as a souvenir of Tokyo,” and after considering various ingredients, banana was chosen as a flavor that would please everyone from small babies to the elderly.
Bananas are now readily available, but there was a time when bananas were a coveted snack that was hard to come by.
Bananas are also something that everyone feels familiar and nostalgic about, like taking them on field trips or peeling them yourself, so they have been familiar to us since we were kids.
We thought that this “everyone” feeling of nostalgia would be appropriate for souvenirs from Tokyo, where people of all ages, professions, and personalities gather.

The reason we chose “Banana” instead of “Banana” was to make it more approachable by giving it a name that evokes the image of a pretty girl.
This idea has struck a chord with many people, both those who visit Tokyo and those who return to the countryside from Tokyo, and on holidays there are long lines at the sales counter in Tokyo Station.
Thoughts on eating Tokyo Banana
The soft and fluffy sponge has a hint of banana flavor, and the rich banana pudding cream has just the right amount of sweetness to complement the sponge.
The palm-size is perfect for eating with a cup of coffee or tea.
It is also delicious at room temperature, but in hot weather we recommend refrigerating it or freezing it like ice cream for a different flavor.
