A new indoor adventure park in Dauphin County is bringing kids of all ages opportunities to jump, soar, race, climb, play and, most importantly, have fun.

Urban Air Adventure Park opens 10 a.m. Dec. 16 at 4200 Derry St. in Swatara Township in space that was vacant for nearly 20 years and previously housed a movie theater and Gingerbread Man restaurant.

Urban Air is an indoor play space on steroids with dozens of attractions, bright colors and flashing lights.

The national chain advertises itself as the largest indoor adventure park operator in the world. Unlike other indoor activity places, Urban Air offers more than trampolines.

It features about 20 attractions, including ropes courses, Urban Air’s Sky Rider, Battle Beams, dodgeball courts, electric Go-Karting, obstacle courses, VR portal and more.

“Harrisburg has a few things for kids to do, but it’s not as comprehensive as what we have to offer. Our agenda with Urban Air was we wanted to house all of this under one roof,” said Ashish Javia, franchise owner with Milan Dalsania.

The partners, who also operate Urban Air in Lancaster, said they liked the location off Interstate 83 because the the adventure parks draw visitors from at least a 45-minute radius. They spent a year building out the venue, which offers all of the chain’s core activities except for laser tag due to space constraints.

The Texas-based Urban Air chain operates more than 100 locations and plans to open more.

Designed to appeal to all ages, Urban Air’s attractions range from mini trampolines for kids 7-and-under to battle beams for all ages. All ages can ride go-karts with accommodations for parents to ride with younger children at slower speeds, and everyone can test their skills at the Warrior Course, similar to the television show “Ninja Warriors.”

“We think this is a place where you disconnect and be a kid again,” said Jackie Hoegger, Urban Air’s marketing director. “On top of that, you’ll find a lot of our attractions are very challenging.”

While play is part of the equation, Hoegger said the attractions teach problem solving, discipline, excitement, motivation and confidence building. Parents often think they will watch, but end up joining their kids, she said.

“Safety and fun and giggles and confidence boosting is really what the philosophy is behind Urban Air,” Hoegger added.

Safety is paramount at Urban Air. Employees are trained on up-to-date safety measures and staff all of the attractions, while visitors sign waivers and harnesses are required for climbing attractions.

The facility is also a popular party spot, whether birthday, mom’s nights out, end of school, team or prom parties, among others. About 10 party rooms are available to reserve.

Various levels of day passes are available based on the number of attractions and age and height restrictions. Daily ticket prices start at $20.99 for a pass for basic attractions to $25.99 for deluxe attractions and $39.99 for a full platinum access. Children ages 5-and under are $15.99.

Monthly memberships are also available in various levels, ranging from $15.99 to $19.99.

Urban Air is open daily. More information is available on the website.
